Dixie Chicks is a country music group, currently comprising Martie Maguire, Emily Robison and lead singer Natalie Maines. The group has sold 30.5 million albums in the United States through August 2009. Dixie Chicks formed in 1989 in Dallas, Texas, and was originally composed of four women performing bluegrass and country music, busking and touring the bluegrass festival circuits and small venues for six years, without attracting a major label. After the departure of one bandmate, the replacement of their lead singer, and a slight change in their repertoire, the Dixie Chicks achieved massive country music and pop success, beginning in 1998 with hit songs like "Wide Open Spaces", "Cowboy Take Me Away", and "Long Time Gone". The women also became well-known for their independent spirit and controversial comments on subjects such as war and politics. As of 2009, they have won 13 Grammy Awards, with 5 of them earned in 2007 including the coveted Grammy Award for Album of the Year for Taking The Long Way. About Dixie Chicks

A proposed April 2008 commercial spot to promote Al Gore's "We Campaign" involving both the Dixie Chicks and Toby Keith was eventually abandoned because of scheduling conflicts. While the Dixie Chicks have been uniquely successful, other up-and-coming all-female bands that have been compared to them include the Canadian band Po' Girl, the Australian trio The McClymonts, and the American trio The Shells.

Martie Maguire and Emily Robison will be releasing new music in 2010 without lead vocalist Natalie Maines. Lloyd Maines, Natalie's father, has stated that the trio are "definitely still an entity". On January 15, it was announced that duo will be known as Court Yard Hounds and will release an album in May with Robison on lead vocals.

On March 16, 2010, the Dixie Chicks announced they will be touring with music group The Eagles. The tour begins on June 8, 2010 in Toronto, and has eight shows announced concert dates so far. The tour will be stadium-based, visiting cities such as Boston, Chicago, Philadelphia, Washington, St. Louis and Winnipeg with a performance at the New Meadowlands Stadium in East Rutherford, NJ. Country singer Keith Urban will appear at selected concerts.
