Sacramento Kings are a professional basketball team based in Sacramento, California, United States. The Kings are members of the National Basketball Association (NBA). Sacramento Kings initially started in the city of Rochester, New York, as the Rochester Royals of the National Basketball League. In 1957, the Royals were moved to Cincinnati, Ohio, by the Harrison brothers. The Royals were renamed the Kings because Kansas City already had the Royals baseball team. The Kings moved to their current home of Sacramento, California in the 1985–86 NBA season, with their first Sacramento season ending in the first round of the Western Conference playoffs.
